fynbos reserve
nature retreat
To appreciate Orchids in fynbos, one must bend and look in between the vegetation of marshes and other moist areas. Most fynbos orchids are small and only show themselves after fire. The diversity of orchids is however mind blowing; around 200 different Orchids can be found in the fynbos region. Some of the orchids, such as the Disa racemosa and the Disa bivalvata can be seen by the thousands after fire. Of the Pachites bodikinii on the other hand, we have only spotted four individuals. The Disa cornuta and Disa bracteata can be seen, fire or no fire, in the flats year after year.
