Moraea is a genus of the Iris family which is exclusive to Africa. Fifteen Moraea species grow in the reserve of farm 215 and all can only be seen flowering in the first year(s) after a fire. The Moraea Barnardii is a slender plant which can only accidentally be spotted in the field. It occurs in two restricted areas in the Overberg and is listed as "critically rare". The distribution of the Moraea lurida is also restricted to the Overberg. The flower comes in a huge variety of colours. The darker the colour of the flower, the more it smells like rotten meat, which attracts flies, the main pollinator of this bulb.
