More than thirty Erica ("heath") species occur in the reserve. Where you see Ericas, you will see the sunbirds, feeding off the nectar of the flowers with their specialized beaks and nervously hopping from plant to plant. The Edmondia, Phaenocoma and the Syncarpha species (of the Daisy family, the largest family of flowering plants in the world with over 20'000 species) are commonly referred to as "everlastings". The flowers on the live plants are dry (to save precious moisture but at the same time still be attractive for pollinators) and according to folklore they last forever in a vase.
