Fynbos is not all about plants. Fynbos is an essential habitat for animals and birds. Some animals depend solely on fynbos. The habitat of the Grysbok, a small antelope, is restricted to fynbos. Several tortoise, amphibian and reptile species only occur in fynbos, such as the Parrot beaked tortoise and the small Southern adder, an Overberg endemic. The area is furthermore the South-western-most fringe of the distribution of the Bushbuck which survives as an isolated population in Platbos and surrounding forest remnants. The reserve has vast stretches covered with rocky outcrops, which is the habitat of a happy Klipspringer family.
